Below, you will find the song selections and scenes we will be using for The Wizard of Oz auditions.
We have selected 7 songs and 9 scenes for the auditions.
You will be singing to the exact same Accompaniment tracks you hear on this page, so please become familiar with them.

In order to help speed up the page loading, we combined the Guide Vocals and Accompaniment into ONE CONVENIENT TRACK.
So whether you are practicing on the SRO site or if you download the tracks, the Guide Vocal Track will be first and (after a few seconds) the Accompaniment Track will follow.

To practice on the SRO Website just click the PLAY button on the grey bar to hear the Guide Vocals then Accompaniment while you read the lyrics!!!
OR
Download the MP3 by left-clicking on links - they look like these:

WHEN YOU DOWNLOAD THE SCENES, IF THE TEXT IS TOO SMALL FOR YOU TO READ, PLEASE CLICK ON THE  + SIGN ON THE TOP OF THE PDF TO ZOOM IN AND MAKE THE WORDS LARGER
If you still have trouble accessing the songs, email us at

Each performer should prepare
2 SONG SELECTIONS AND AT LEAST ONE SCENE/MONOLOGUE.
You will be considered for all the characters in the show, regardless of which songs/scenes you choose.

Each selection is a combination of 2 audio tracks (Guide Vocals followed by Accompaniment only).  The lyrics are provided directly below the audio tracks. Learn the song using the Guide Vocals, then use the Accompaniment to prepare for the audition.  It is preferred that lyrics be memorized so we can see the performer act as well as sing, but you may audition with the lyrics, if absolutely necessary.  Please have the scene/monologue you choose memorized so we can see your acting.
You may also be asked to read another scene.

Please listen to all of the selections, and then pick songs that you are comfortable singing and best showcases your talents (singing AND acting).

YOU WILL BE CONSIDERED FOR ALL ROLES (male or female) regardless of your song selection, so pick songs you like and sing well.  It doesn’t matter if the guide vocalist is male or female, you may choose any of the
selections to sing.

**WE KNOW YOU WANT TO START LEARNING THE AUDITION MATERIALS, BUT PLEASE GO TO THE TOP OF THE PAGE AND MAKE SURE THAT YOU HAVE READ ALL THE INSTRUCTIONS.
THANK YOU- GOOD LUCK!!!**

SOMEWHERE OVER THE RAINBOW

Somewhere over the rainbow way up high, there's a land that I heard of once in a lullaby.  Somewhere over the rainbow skies are blue, and the dreams that you dare to dream really do come true.
Someday I'll wish upon a star and wake up where the clouds are far behind me.  Where troubles melt like lemon drops, away above the chimney tops, that's where you'll find me.
Somewhere over the rainbow blue birds fly, birds fly over the rainbow, why then oh why can't I?  If happy little bluebirds fly beyond the rainbow, why, oh why, can't I?

GLINDA

COME OUT, COME OUT WHEREVER YOU ARE

Come out, come, out, wherever you are, and meet the young lady who fell from a star.  She fell from the sky, she fell very far and Kansas she says, is the name of the star (Kansas she says, is the name of the star).
She brings you good news, or haven't you heard?  When she fell out of Kansas, a miracle occurred.

SCARECROW

IF I ONLY HAD A BRAIN

I could while away the hours, conferrin' with the flowers, consultin' with the rain.  And my head I'd be scratchin', while my thoughts were busy hatchin' if I only had a brain.  I'd unravel every riddle for any individ'le, in trouble or in pain.  (With the thoughts you'd be thinkin' you could be another Lincoln)  If I only had a brain.
Oh, I could tell you why the ocean's near the shore.  (You could think of things you never thunk before)  And then I'd sit, and think some more.

TIN MAN

IF I ONLY HAD A HEART

When a man's an empty kettle, he should be on his mettle, and yet, I'm torn apart.  Just because I'm presumin' that I could be kinda human, if I only had a heart.  I'd be tender, I'd be gentle, and awful sentimental, regarding love and art.  I'd be friends with the sparrows, and the boy that shoots the arrows, if I only had a heart.
Picture me, a balcony, above a voice sings low (Wherefore art thou, Romeo?) I hear a beat...(How sweet!)

COWARDLY LION

IF I ONLY HAD THE NERVE

Life is sad, believe me, missy, when you're born to be a sissy, without the vim and verve.  But I could change my habits, never more be scared of rabbits, if I only had the nerve.  I'm afraid there's no denyin', I'm just a dandy-lion, a fate I don't deserve.  But I could show my prowess, be a lion, not a mow-ess, if I only had the nerve.
(Oh, you'd be in your stride, a king down to the core.  You could roar the way you never roared before) and then I'd Rrrwooff! And roar some more.

THE MERRY OLD LAND OF OZ

Ha-ha-ha!  Ho-ho-ho! And a couple of tra-la-las!  That's how we laugh the day away in the merry old land of Oz.  Buzz-buzz-buzz!  Chirp-chirp-chirp! And a couple of la-dee-das...that's how the crickets crick all day, in the merry old land of Oz.  We get up at 12 and start to work at 1.   Take an hour for lunch and then at 2 we're done. (Jolly good fun!)  Ha-ha-ha! Ho-ho-ho! And a couple of tra-la-las! That's how we laugh the day away in the merry old land of Oz.

JITTERBUG SOLO

THE JITTERBUG

(It's a Who-sis...It's a Who-sis?  It's a What-sis...It's a What-sis?  Who's that?  Who's there? Who's where? Beware!!)

Who's that hiding in the treetops?  It's that rascal, the Jitterbug.  Should you catch him buzzing 'round you, keep away from the Jitterbug.  Oh, the bees in the breeze, and the bats in the trees, have a terrible, horrible buzz.  But the bees in the breeze, and the bats in the trees couldn't do what the Jitterbug does.  So, just be careful of that rascal, keep away from the Jitterbug...the Jitterbug.
